«He had given a statement earlier that night giving details of the offences, but there was some doubt.

He said the woman, believed to be his pregnant fiancee, was able to hear what was going on as the assault took place on his back, and felt pain as he was driven away in the back of the van.
He was initially found guilty of four counts of sexual assault, two counts of grievous bodily harm and one count of conspiracy to sexually assault her.
The judge told Gibson he had pleaded guilty to «the most depraved part of your despicable crime» by admitting the offence as a whole but said no harm had been done.
